Russian for bilingual children

Our Russian lessons are designed so that children don't simply memorise rules but understand the language from the inside — speaking, reading, writing and expressing their thoughts in Russian with ease.

Teaching follows the Khamraeva and Samatova methods, developed specifically for bilingual children. The programme takes account of children growing up in an English-speaking environment and builds accurate, confident Russian step by step.

What children learn in Russian lessons

The programme covers every key area, from speaking to writing and grammar:

• spoken language and vocabulary

• reading and reading comprehension

• phonemic awareness and correct pronunciation

• writing and literacy

• Russian grammar

• building sentences and connected narrative

• retelling, reasoning and expressing an opinion

Lessons take place in small groups, with account taken of each child's age and level of Russian.

In lessons children talk, read, discuss texts, answer questions, play language games and complete tasks that help them use Russian naturally and confidently. This approach helps families keep the language alive and pass it on to the next generation.
