I teach Russian language and literature, with a background in both education and music, and extensive experience working with children of pre-school and school age. In my lessons it's important to me not simply to pass on knowledge, but to develop speech, thinking, reading skills and confidence in using Russian. I draw on elements of the Samatova and Khamraeva methods, communicative and play-based approaches, and exercises for phonemic awareness, vocabulary building, reading with understanding, retelling and connected speech. My musical training lets me use rhythm, intonation and listening exercises, which make material easier for children to take in and remember. I try to shape every lesson so that serious academic work sits alongside creativity and enjoyment, and a child gradually learns to understand Russian, speak it accurately, read it and express their thoughts.
